Jakarta – Three victims of the plane crash on BSD City, South Tangerang, Indonesia, have been taken to the National Police Hospital, Keramat Jati, East Jakarta. All victims were confirmed dead. They are pilots, co-pilots and aircraft technicians. “Information from colleagues, the pilot was thrown out of the plane,” said South Tangerang Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Ibnu Bagus Santoso, Sunday, May 19, 2024.
The light aircraft with wing number PK-IFP flew from Tanjung Lesung, Banten, to Pondok Cabe airfield, this afternoon. The crashed plane was carrying three people and crashed near Sunburst field, Cilenggang, BSD City, South Tangerang City, at around 14:00 WIB (Western Indonesia Time). “The three victims’ bodies were taken to the Keramat Jati Police Hospital for identification,” Ibnu said.
Ibnu said that the plane belonged to a group from the Indonesia Flying Club. The cause of the accident is still being investigated. The police have completely handed over this investigation to the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).
The head of the National SAR Agency (Basarnas) said that the light plane accident in Cilenggang, BSD City, South Tangerang, occurred during heavy rain. Bad weather conditions are thought to be one of the causes of the plane crashing on Jalan BSD Grand Boulevard. However, to determine the cause of the accident, the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) has stepped in to investigate.
Head of Basarnas Jakarta, Desiana Kartika Bahari, said that the Basarnas received a report about the plane crash at 13:43 WIB. “All three victims had been evacuated at 16:40,” she said, Sunday, May 19, 2024.
Desiana confirmed that the bodies of the victims were intact. Two victims were trapped in the plane and another was thrown out. “So the ones that are difficult (evacuating) are those in the plane because they need to be careful,” she said. Their bodies were squeezed so it was difficult to get them out. “Because of the crash, their bodies were stuck, it took time to pull them out,” she added.
