BOHOL, 25 October 2023 – The 84th ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation (COSTI-84) and Related Meetings took place on 16-20 October in Bohol, Philippines. The Philippine Department of Science and Technology hosted the event which featured a total of 13 meetings including COSTI-84, Board of Advisers to COSTI Meeting, and nine subcommittee meetings.
Key matters discussed in the COSTI-84 included sub-committee activities and future directions, the status of the ASEAN Science, Technology, and Innovation Fund (ASTIF), the development of the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science, Technology, and Innovation (APASTI) for 2026-2035, implementation of the COSTI Annual Priority Projects for 2023, endorsement of COSTI Annual Priority Projects for 2024, proposals for the 2024 COSTI Annual Priority Projects, and the development of cooperation with Dialogue Partners.
The meeting also conducted the 1st ASEAN-UK Dialogue on Science, Technology, and Innovation (AUKDSTI-1) and the 11th Meeting of the ASEAN-EU Dialogue on Science, Technology, and Innovation (AEUDSTI-11) to strengthen the cooperation with ASEAN Dialogue Partners in the field of science and technology.
The Underwriters Laboratories-ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women 2023 awarding ceremony was also held during the meetings in addition to the ASEAN Techno-Fashion Exposition, an event that exhibited the aesthetic and cultural variety of traditional textiles originating from the ASEAN Member States (AMS).
The meeting served as a pivotal opportunity to strengthen and leverage strategies for science, technology, and innovation within the AMS. The 20th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation (AMMSTI-20) in Siem Reap, Cambodia is planned to be held in June 2024.
ASEAN COSTI is a sectoral body under ASEAN that is responsible for all aspects of cooperation and integration of science, technology, and innovation among the AMS.
